Advice on water balancing

What is water-side balancing?

Suppose you take your car from point A to point B, this can be done in two ways:

Way 1 is to go full throttle until you get to your destination and then hit the brakes full.

Way 2 is gradually departing at a moderate speed and arriving at your destination calmly without much braking.

If you then look at your fuel consumption, it is of course logical that you have used much more fuel with method 1.

The same applies to your heating. Most central heating systems are not adjusted and in balance, so this corresponds to way 1 of the example. This costs unnecessary energy.

Water-side balancing of your central heating system is balancing your central heating system so that it makes optimal use of all components such as the radiators and the central heating boiler. As a result, you use much less energy (around -20% is often feasible) and your home often feels even more comfortable.

In the video below it is also explained again, but a little more technical.

How does water-side balancing work?

First, the valves of the radiators,
the part with a radiator knob,
replaced by special valves that make it possible to adjust the water side.

With this you control the water flow that goes through the radiator.
In an irregular situation, there is almost always too much water going through a radiator,
therefore also unused energy flows away.

The goal is therefore to let exactly as much water flow through the radiator as is required according to the specifications of the radiator.
We calculate this and adjust it by means of the special valves.

A small example:
suppose your supply temperature is 60 degrees, then the discharge temperature should be 48 degrees.
The further you close the flow of water, the greater this temperature difference will be.
This is because the longer the water is present in the radiator, the more energy it releases and thus cools down.

Do you want to adjust the water side yourself?

Water-side balancing usually takes place during the installation of your central heating boiler.
Since the boiler must be installed by an installer for safety reasons,
you can immediately ask whether he regulates this on the water side.

But because this often does not happen during the installation of a central heating boiler or radiator, our installers can do this for you!
Although this is the fastest and easiest way, you can also choose to adjust the radiators yourself.
This requires knowledge, skill, a day's time and the right tools.

The advantages of water-side balancing

• Up to 20% savings

Do you opt for water-side balancing? Then (depending on your gas consumption) you save up to 20% on your energy bill. The heat loss on the radiators is minimal and the efficiency of your central heating boiler is greatly improved.

• Extra comfort

Water-side adjustment also provides extra comfort. The rooms in the house will be up to temperature faster because every radiator heats up in the right way and heats up faster. Another advantage is that you will no longer be bothered by rushing pipes.

• Little effort

Especially when an installer already comes by to replace your central heating boiler and/or thermostat for a smart variant. In that case, it is certainly a small step to opt for water-side balancing. If the valves already have to be replaced during the installation of the thermostat, the step to water-side balancing is completely easy and smart.

• Fast payback

Adjusting the radiators takes little time and is economical to do. This also shortens the payback period. Because you save up to 20% on gas every year, you have earned back the investment in no time. Interested?
